Installing and signing in¶
This page covers getting the app onto your phone or PC, signing in, and the items at the bottom of the app's menu: Support, Delete Account and Logout.
You need a Whisker.io user account to use the app. If you don't have one, ask your account administrator to create one (see Managing users). The app does not have a sign-up screen.
Get the app¶
The app runs on Android phones and tablets, iPhones, and Windows PCs. It is called Whisker.io Mobile on Android and Windows and Whisker Mobile on iPhone.
The Android app is not in the Google Play Store yet. Download it from the D6 Labs website on the WhiskerMobile page (under Support → Downloads) and install it yourself.
- On your Android device, open the WhiskerMobile page on the D6 Labs website and tap Download APK.
- When the download finishes, tap the notification, or open your Downloads folder and tap the file.
- If Android asks, tap Settings and turn on Allow from this source for your browser, then go back and tap Install.
- If Google Play Protect warns that the app is not verified, tap More details, then Install anyway. This warning is normal for apps installed from outside the Play Store.
- Once it is installed, you can turn Allow from this source off again.
Tip
On Android 8.0 and older, the setting is a single switch under Settings → Security → Unknown sources.
To update the app, download and install the new file the same way. Android installs it over the old version.
The iPhone app needs iOS 16 or later. It is built for iPhone.
Note
The iPhone app is not yet in the App Store. Check the WhiskerMobile page on the D6 Labs website for availability, or contact D6 Labs support.
The Windows app runs on Windows 10 and later.
- On the D6 Labs website, open the WhiskerMobile page (under Support → Downloads) and download the Windows installer (WhiskerMobileSetup-1.0.0.exe).
- Run the installer and follow the steps. You don't need administrator rights for the default install location.
- Choose whether you want a desktop shortcut, then finish. The installer can start the app for you.
The app appears in the Start menu as Whisker.io Mobile. To remove it, use Settings → Apps in Windows.
Note
Two features need a phone: Replace Device uses the camera to scan barcodes, and links in alert texts and emails open the app only on a phone. On Windows, an alert link opens in your web browser.
When the app starts it shows Initializing... for a moment. If you signed in before, it signs you in again automatically and opens the HMI home screen. Otherwise you see the login screen.
- Enter your Whisker.io Username (your username, not your email address).
- Enter your Password.
- Tap Log in.
The app then loads your account. A progress screen shows each step: Account Info, Permission Roles, Locations, Devices and HMI Data. On a slow connection this can take a little while.
Your account comes from your username, so there is no account to choose. If you use more than one Whisker.io account, sign out and sign in with the username for the other account.
If the sign-in fails, a red message appears under the password field. Check your username and password and try again. If you still can't sign in, sign in on the web portal to check whether your password works there (see Logging in).
Two-factor verification code¶
If your user has two-factor authentication (2FA) turned on, a verification code dialog opens after you tap Log in.
- Check your phone for a text message with the code.
- Type it into the Code field.
- Tap Submit.
If nothing happens after you tap Submit, the code was probably mistyped or has expired. Close the dialog by tapping outside it, check the code, and tap Log in again. The app has no Re-send button. For help with codes that don't arrive, see Logging in.
Forgot your password?¶
The Forgot password? link on the login screen does not work yet. To reset your password, use Forgot Password? on the web portal login page (see Logging in), then sign in to the app with the new password. Your administrator can also set a new password for you.
Note
If your administrator turned on Force Password Reset for your user, sign in on the web portal first and choose your new password there. The app does not ask you to change it.
Staying signed in and signing out¶
The app remembers your sign-in on the device, so you don't have to type your password each time. If your session expires, or your password is changed, the app returns you to the login screen the next time it starts.
To sign out, open the menu (☰ at the top left) and tap Logout. The app removes your saved sign-in from the device and returns to the login screen. Sign out before you hand the device to someone else.
The menu¶
Open the menu with ☰ at the top left of most screens:
| Menu item | What it opens |
|---|---|
| HMI | Your HMI screens. See HMI screens |
| Graphs | Saved trend graphs. See Graphs |
| Devices | All devices, grouped by location. See Devices |
| Flow Meters | Flow totals. See Flow meters |
| Alerts | All alerts and their state. See Alerts |
| Alert Contacts | People who receive alerts. See Contacts and users |
| Users | Users on your account. See Contacts and users |
| Support | D6 Labs support phone and email |
| Delete Account | Ask D6 Labs to delete your user account |
| Logout | Sign out of the app |
Opening an alert from a text or email¶
Alert texts and emails can contain a link to the alert, such as
https://www.whisker.io/a/12345. On a phone with the app installed, tapping the link opens the
Alert Detail screen in the app. If you are signed out, sign in first and the app then opens
the alert. See Alerts for what the screen shows.
If the app is not installed, the link opens a web page that says You have an alert and offers to open the app or install it. That page does not show any alert details.
Get help¶
Open the menu and tap Support. The Support Info dialog shows:
- Call: 1-405-606-2224. Tap it to call D6 Labs support.
- Email: support@d6labs.com. Tap it to write an email.
For common problems, see Troubleshooting.
Delete your account¶
You can ask D6 Labs to delete your Whisker.io user account and its data from inside the app.
- Open the menu and tap Delete Account.
- Optionally type why in Reason (optional).
- Tap Request Deletion. (Tap Cancel to back out.)
The Request Submitted message confirms that support has your request. Nothing is deleted straight away: D6 Labs support contacts you to confirm before anything is removed. If the request fails, the app shows a message asking you to contact support@d6labs.com.
Warning
This deletes your user, not your company's Whisker.io account. If you only want to stop receiving alerts, ask your administrator to remove you from the alert contacts or schedule instead.
